Advance Practice Nurse Practitioner (APRN) Clinical Placement Pledge

To ensure students enrolled in Herzing’s Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APRN) programs are able to secure the clinical practice experiences necessary to integrate new knowledge, demonstrate achievement of program outcomes, and meet the requirements of the program, Herzing University provides guidance and support through its Clinical Guidance Process, which is made available to students as part of the required clinical readiness course.

As part of the Clinical Guidance Process, APRN students are encouraged to identify and secure their own clinical sites and preceptors. This proactive approach provides multiple benefits for the APRN student, including the development of a strong working relationship between the student and preceptor, establishing networking opportunities that may support future employment, and minimizing the student’s need to travel a long distance to a clinical site.

Should an APRN student experience difficulty identifying or securing an appropriate clinical site and preceptor, Herzing clinical coordinators will partner with the student to provide guidance and support in securing a clinical site and preceptorship.

If the student has followed the requirements of Herzing Clinical Guidance Process, has exhausted all required efforts, and the clinical coordinator is not able to secure a clinical site and preceptorship for the student, Herzing will refund all tuition the student has paid for the APRN nursing program to date, in accordance with Herzing’s Pledge Refund Policy .

This APRN Clinical Placement Pledge is subject to the following terms and conditions:

  • Herzing maintains numerous partnerships with healthcare providers across the United States. Although students may submit site/location preferences, Herzing may not be able to fulfill all student requests.
  • For students who do not follow the Clinical Guidance Process or do not comply with clinical site requirements and are dismissed from the site, the APRN Clinical Placement Pledge will be considered void.
  • If a student declines the clinical site identified by Herzing, the APRN Clinical Placement Pledge will be considered void.
  • Herzing has up to two (2) consecutive semesters to secure a clinical placement for the student. If a clinical placement is not secured after the second semester, Herzing shall refund all tuition incurred for the APRN program to the student, in accordance with Herzing’s Pledge Refund Policy .
  • A contract and/or an affiliation agreement is required between Herzing and the approved clinical site. Herzing shall work with clinical sites and preceptors to secure the required contracts and/or affiliation agreements needed for student placement. However, due to institutional policies, insurance, and other requirements varying from facility to facility, the ability of Herzing to execute a contract and/or an affiliation agreement cannot be guaranteed. Additionally, should a student be placed with a preceptor or site by Herzing, and subsequently, the site or preceptor is unable to accommodate the student, Herzing cannot guarantee an alternate placement for that academic term. This may result in the student not being placed at that site or with the desired preceptor, impacting course scheduling and program progression. In such cases, Herzing will make reasonable efforts to secure an alternate placement within two semesters; however, delayed graduation may occur.
  • As outlined in the Clinical Guidance Process, the student must initiate the formal process at least two (2) months prior to the initial clinical application deadline for the upcoming clinical term. Students who enter or transfer into the program after the guidance process deadline are not eligible for the APRN Clinical Placement Pledge for that term.

Herzing shall not be liable for, nor deemed to be in default or breach of this Pledge for any failure or delay in fulfilling or performing any term of this APRN Clinical Placement Pledge, when and to the extent such failure or delay is caused by or results from acts beyond the  affected party’s (“Impacted Party”) reasonable control, including, without limitation, the following force majeure events (“Force Majeure Events”): (a) acts of God; (b) flood, fire, earthquake or explosion; (c) war, invasion, hostilities (whether war is declared or not), terrorist threats or acts, riot or other civil unrest; (d) government order or law; (e) actions, embargoes or blockades in effect on or after the date of this Agreement; (f) action by any governmental authority; (g) national or regional emergency; (h) strikes, labor stoppages or slowdowns, or other labor or industrial disturbances (including, without limitation, viruses or pandemics); and (i) shortage of adequate power or transportation facilities.

The Impacted Party shall provide notice within thirty (30) days of the Force Majeure Event to the other party, including the period of time the occurrence is expected to continue. The Impacted Party shall use reasonable efforts to end the failure or delay and ensure the effects of such Force Majeure Event are minimized. The Impacted Party shall resume the performance of its obligations as soon as practicable after the removal of the cause.

For questions related to the APRN Clinical Placement Pledge or the Clinical Guidance Process, students should contact their program chair.

* Graduation and completion rates are calculated for full-time, first-time undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the length of their program. Graduation rate data aligns with Herzing University’s most recent IPEDS data, which can be found on https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/

** Placement data aligns with reporting requirements that are outlined by the different states and accreditors listed. Herzing University uses the data definitions and methodologies required by those external agencies when calculating any corresponding employment outcome rates. As such, different definitions and timeframes are often required in measuring the cohorts of graduates from the various programs/campus locations.

** ACEN defines job placement rate as the percentage of graduates, typically within (1) year of graduation, who are employed in a position for which a nursing program prepared them. ACEN does not calculate based

on total number of graduates but instead calculates based on total number of graduates who responded to contact attempts. The reporting period is for students who graduated between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. Data is aggregated by program option.

** CCNE defines employment rate as the percentage of graduates employed within 12 months of program completion, excluding graduates who elect not to seek employment in the calculation. The reporting period is January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025, for students who graduated between January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. Data is aggregated by degree type.

** ARCSTSA calculates graduate placement rate as the percentage of placed graduates in the field of surgical technology/surgical assisting or a related field, on active military duty, or continuing education divided by the total number graduates. The reporting period is for students who graduated between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
